DUKE ENERGY TO HOST PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING-JANUARY 26

Duke Energy Progress is committed to providing customers with reliable electric service. To ensure reliable service and minimize outages, it is important that we maintain trees and other vegetation along the lines that deliver electricity to your home. Duke Energy Progress will host a public information session to discuss planned tree trimming maintenance in the following areas in Morehead City:

  • Maple Lane towards Bridges St., then turns left and follows Bridges Street to 16th Street.
  • Neighborhoods around Mansfield Parkway, Mitchell Village and Pelletier Creek. The circuit travels along Bogue Sound (Sound Drive and Holly Lane).
  • Maple Lane substation to 20th St., the feeder continues past Emeline Place, Yaupon Terrace, Calamanda Creek subdivision, past Crab Point Bay, ending near Clark Court

The workshop will feature information stations with experts available to discuss planned activities and vegetation management techniques. There is no formal presentation and citizens are welcome to stop by the event at any time. To learn more about the planned work join us:

Outdoor Artificial Ice Skating Rink (December 19, 2014 – January 4, 2015)

Celebrate the holiday season by skating on the Morehead City Waterfront. The Morehead City Parks & Recreation Department will be operating an artificial ice skating rink during the Christmas holidays. Admission fees are $5.00 per person (fee includes rental skates) for each 45-minute skating session. Skating sessions are limited to 50 people per session. For group ticket sales, please contact the MCPRD at 726-5083. All participants or parents/guardians of minor participants must read and sign a release waiver to skate.

Rink Location: Katherine Davis Park parking lot (601 Arendell Street)

Daily Skating Session Times: 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, & 7:00  (closed 12/24 & 12/25); *Special New Year’s Eve Sessions @ 8:00, 9:00, 10:00, & 11:00* 

OPENING DAY (Friday, December 19) FOOD DRIVE SPECIAL!!  Individuals may donate 2 cans/non-perishable items to receive free admission to a 45 minute skating session instead of the $5.00 fee. Donated items will be given to Martha’s Mission Cupboard.

No responsibility is accepted or undertaken by the Town or the rink’s provider/manufacturer for the wellbeing of the user, their guests, or the property of either.  We reserve the right, at our sole discretion, to refuse admission to anyone, or remove from the premises anyone, not abiding by the rules.  In consideration for your access and use, and by your use you expressly agree, to release, hold harmless and indemnify the Town of Morehead City, its officers, officials, employees and agents, from all claims for property damages, injury or death which you may suffer or for which you may be liable to others, arising out of the use of the artificial ice skating rink and any skates or other equipment/devices provided, whether such claims are for negligence or any other theory of recovery, except for intentional misconduct on the part of the Town.  Persons less than 18 years of age must have written permission from their parents or guardians to skate.

City Sponsoring a Coat and Blanket Drive

The City is sponsoring a coat and blanket drive open to all Morehead City residents.  Either be a giver or a receiver (or both) by dropping off a new or gently used coat or blanket at a designated City location or drop by the Municipal Building (202 S. 8th Street) on December 20th to receive a coat or blanket.  VIEW PDF  for more information.

City offices will be closed on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Offices will reopen on Monday, December 1. The City wishes you a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
