Municipal recreation and educational classes for Morehead City are provided and give a comprehensive and varied program of activities, services, and resources for its citizens at all levels, from the pre-school to senior citizens. It is our department’s desire to provide a recreation experience designed to meet constructive and worthwhile goals of the individual participant, groups, and the community at large.

Free Fitness Orientation

Free Fitness Orientations are offered on the first Tuesday of the month from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. The orientation will be held at the Morehead City Parks & Recreation Center located at 1600 Fisher Street.  This orientation is for those who are new to working out, or those who would like to know more about the fitness machines and programs offered.  Upcoming dates include February 7th, March 7th, and April 4th.  Orientation will be led by Victoria Ward.  See Flyer for more details. Zumba (New Class Offering)

Zumba classes are offered on Mondays 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.at a cost of $4.00 per class. All classes will be held at the Morehead City Parks & Recreation Center located at 1600 Fisher Street.  This class is for those who want to have fun dancing while burning calories.  Laura Bryson is the instructor.  Questions: Please contact Morehead City Parks and Recreation; 252-726-5083.

Barre Fitness (Sample Class)

The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department will now be offering a fitness class called Barre Fit. This program will be offered Tuesday January, 17th at 5:15 PM as well as Thursday, January 19th at 10:15 AM. There is no fee for these sample classes.  Class-goers need to bring water, yoga mat or towel is optional. This class is a hybrid of Yoga, Pilates, and Ballet Flexibility and will consist of stretching/strengthening of all major muscle groups, creating lean and long muscles without bulk, and strengthening abdominal and back muscles improving balance and back pain. 11th Street Vessel Permits

The Morehead City Parks and Recreation Department accepts 11th Street Vessel Parking Permit applications annually on March 1; permits are valid March 1 – January 15 of the pass year. MCPRD will begin accepting 2017-18 permit applications on Wednesday, March 1 at 7:00 a.m. at the Morehead City Recreation Center located at 1600 Fisher Street. Vessel permit cost is $25.
