The TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY has a vacancy for a full-time UTILITY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN in the Water/Sewer Department. Position performs intermediate skilled work in the installation, repair/maintenance of water/sewer lines.  Typical duties include locating, repairing, unstopping water/sewer lines; installing water meters; operating, maintaining wells; operating related machinery/equipment.  Job requires the ability to lift up to 25# regularly and 50# frequently; wearing a respirator and other specialized equipment may be required; working in internal and external environmental conditions. On-call and rotating weekend hours required. Combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience in water/sewer lines maintenance/repair work. Possession of or ability to obtain C-Well Certification and CDL Class B (tank endorsement) NC Driver’s License. Hiring salary: 26,291. Excellent benefits package. The TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY located on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina has a vacancy for a full-time FIREFIGHTER/EMT-PARAMEDIC position.  Duties include responding to emergency calls; suppressing fires; providing basic and advanced life support and emergency medical services; handling hazardous materials; operating and maintaining vehicles and equipment; preparing and maintaining detailed reports.  Position requires knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, automobile extraction, and emergency transportation; fire suppression methods and techniques; proper handling of hazardous materials.  Must possess high school diploma or GED.  Firefighter I & II, EMT-Paramedic, Technical Rescue and HAZMAT certifications required.  Possession of a valid, unrestricted NC driver’s license required.  Qualified applicants must be able to obtain OSHA-required respirator clearance.  Hiring salary – $41,933 (based on 2912 annual hours at $14.40 per hour).  Excellent benefits package.  Qualified applicants may apply at the Employment Security Commission (ESC), 309 Commerce Street, Morehead City, NC or at any ESC location. The TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY is seeking to fill a vacancy for a BUILDING INSPECTOR LEVEL I or LEVEL II in our Planning & Inspections Department.  Typical duties include performing building, electrical, mechanical or plumbing inspections; reviewing plans; performing field inspections and re-inspections of building and facilities for compliance.  Work requires, but not limited to, climbing, balancing, kneeling, stooping, crawling, lifting, pushing, oral communication and working in internal and external environmental conditions.  High school diploma or GED, experience in the inspection specialties and construction trades, and possession of a valid, unrestricted NC Driver’s License is required, in addition to:
• Building Inspector I – Hiring Range $33,550-$38,583, depending upon qualifications. (Minimum Qualifications – Ability to obtain Level I probationary NC certification in Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical trades and ability to obtain standard Level I certifications in all trades within two years.)
• Building Inspector II – Hiring Range $35,214-$40,496, depending upon qualifications.  (Minimum Qualifications – Level II probationary NC certification in Building, Plumbing, Electrical, Mechanical trades and ability to obtain standard Level II certifications in all trades within two years.)

The TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY has a vacancy for a full-time BUILDING MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN to perform intermediate semiskilled work maintaining and repairing public buildings and facilities.  Duties include maintenance tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting work; maintaining and repairing HVAC units; assisting with ground/landscaping maintenance as necessary.  Candidates must have thorough knowledge of maintenance and repair of the area assigned and of the hand and specialized power tools required in the work.  Must be able to lift up to 50#, climb, kneel, crouch, climb, balance and work in outdoor weather conditions.  Possession of an EPA Technician Certification and a valid NC Driver’s License required.  High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in building maintenance.  Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, with possible on-call evenings and week-ends.  Hiring range is $26,291 to $30,243, depending upon qualifications.  Excellent benefits package.  Qualified applicants may apply at the NC Employment Security Commission, 309 Commerce St., Morehead City, NC, or any ESC location.  EOE

The TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY is seeking to fill a vacancy for the position of CHIEF UTILITY PLANT OPERATOR in our Wastewater Treatment Plant.  This position will assist the Superintendent with planning, directing, and supervising WWTP operations and maintenance.  Duties include daily supervising of plant operators; operation of WWTP to include monitoring gauges and control panels; reading meters; checking, regulating, adjusting and operating equipment; collecting wastewater samples; performing basic lab tests; assist with plan reviews of plant additions/replacements. Supervises WWTP staff in absence of Superintendent.  Able to lift, stoop, kneel, crouch; wear a respirator and other specialized equipment; work in internal and external environmental conditions; good communication skills. High school diploma or GED with coursework in chemistry, biology, wastewater or water treatment.  Prefer experience in operation and maintenance of WWTP machinery and equipment.  Possession of a valid unrestricted NC Driver’s License.  Possession of Grade III NC Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and Grade I Wastewater Collection certifications.  Hiring range $38,834-$44,657, depending upon qualifications.
