THE TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY has a full-time vacancy for an ASSISTANT PUBLIC SERVICES DIRECTOR. This newly created position performs difficult skilled technical and administrative work assisting, planning, directing, coordinating and supervising operations, services and staff in the Public Services Department (this is a combined department of public works and public utilities operations). Work involves assisting the Public Services Director with daily operations, maintenance, repairs of streets, storm drains, sidewalks, cemeteries, fleet maintenance, building & grounds, solid waste collection, water production, treatment and distribution, wastewater production and treatment; assists with departmental and capital budgets; assists with staff recruitment, training, evaluation, discipline; receives and responds to citizens inquiries and complaints; attends committee and Council meetings as required. Thorough knowledge of: public works and utilities administration and operations; Federal and State regulations and standards; local governmental budgeting, management and purchasing. Ability to plan, coordinate, develop, and direct projects; ability to plan, direct, review work of subordinate employees; ability to communicate effectively with elected officials, associates and the general public. Preferred education and experience: Bachelor’s degree with coursework in civil engineering (PE preferred) or related field and considerable experience in Public Services operations and supervisory experience. Physical requirements include lifting, kneeling, crawling, pushing, pulling and other related activities; work includes exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Hiring range $54,642 to $62,838 depending on experience and qualifications. Excellent benefits package.

THE TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY has a vacancy for a full-time CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER to perform a variety of difficult technical work for the Planning & Inspections Department. Duties include, but not limited to, interpreting and enforcing the City’s codes and ordinances for zoning, minimum housing, land use, and flood zones; detects/investigates/issues code violations; inspects new construction; issues and processes various permits/applications; creates maps using GIS software. General knowledge of principles of zoning, codes and regulations pertaining to land use and zoning; working knowledge of GIS. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, site plans and designs; ability to enforce ordinances and regulations; ability to work with associates, government officials and general public. Requires the ability to work in internal and external environments; abililty to, but not limited to lifting, kneeling, climbing, walking, crawling. High school diploma or GED with coursework in planning, geography, GIS or related field and considerable experience in code enforcement and plan review work or equivalent combination. Valid, unrestricted NC driver’s license is required. Hiring range: $33,550 to $38,583, depending on qualifications. Excellent benefits package. The TOWN OF MOREHEAD CITY is seeking to fill a vacancy for the position of CHIEF UTILITY PLANT OPERATOR in our Wastewater Treatment Plant. Duties include daily supervising of plant operators; operation of WWTP to include monitoring gauges and control panels; reading meters; checking, regulating, adjusting and operating equipment; collecting wastewater samples; performing basic lab tests; assist with plan reviews of plant additions/replacements. Supervises WWTP staff in absence of Superintendent. Able to lift, stoop, kneel, crouch; wear a respirator and other specialized equipment; work in internal and external environmental conditions; good communication skills. High school diploma or GED with coursework in chemistry, biology, wastewater or water treatment. Prefer experience in operation and maintenance of WWTP machinery and equipment. NC Driver’s License, Grade III NC Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator and Grade I Wastewater Collection certifications. Hiring range $38,834-$44,657, depending upon qualifications.
